Zero Remote Calls
Copy Markdown was built from the ground up as a privacy-first web scraper. We believe your web data, source code, and online research should remain absolutely private. The extension makes zero remote network calls. There are no analytics servers, no remote tracking pixels, and no database collections.
100% Local Execution
The entire parsing and conversion engine runs locally inside your browser's context. When you click the Copy Markdown icon or use the context menu, the Document Object Model (DOM) is parsed locally on your device. The generated Markdown files are either copied directly to your system clipboard or made available as local downloads using Blob URIs.
Permissions & Scoping
We strictly follow the principle of least privilege, adhering to Chrome Web Store's Manifest V3 specifications. The extension requests only the following permissions:
- activeTab: Allows the extension to interact only with the tab you explicitly trigger it on. It cannot monitor your browsing history across other tabs.
- scripting: Enables local code execution to extract content and styles from the active page.
- clipboardWrite: Permits writing the processed Markdown content to your system clipboard.
We do not require the invasive chrome.downloads permission, meaning the extension cannot write files or access directories on your computer without your explicit manual action.
Secure Local Downloads
To save files, we leverage standard web Blob allocations (URL.createObjectURL) to trigger a download click programmatically. Your data never passes through a middleman server, ensuring absolute user privacy and security.
